Murder trial for husband of D.C. Everest graduate to begin today

The murder trial for the man accused of killing a D.C. Everest graduate is expected to start Monday. Jeffery Trevino, 39, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of Kira Trevino, 30. He has pleaded not guilty. The two lived together in Minnesota.

Kira Trevino had been missing since February 21, when her body was found in the Mississippi River in May. That river is just five miles from the couple's home.

An autopsy revealed Kira Trevino had a cut above her left eye, injury to her lip and a broken finger. The medical examiner determined the cause of her death was homicide.

KTSP in Minnesota reports that Jeffery Trevino's Attorney will attempt to raise reasonable doubt that someone killed Kira. The trial could last about three weeks and jury selection is expected to take two days.
