The owner of a six-month-old puppy that was shot in the head as it was tied up on a leash in the middle of the day says she has no idea why the dog was targeted.
"I don't know how it happened. I just heard him yelping," Stacey Bell said Wednesday.
Bell said she had tied up the Jack Russell terrier/border collie mix puppy named Jack outside her home about 1 p.m. Tuesday while she took a bath when the shooting occurred in the 600 block of Humboldt Avenue.
"That is what scares me, for it to happen in the middle of the day," the 32-year-old Bell said.
Bell said the dog was shot in the forehead with a single pellet and had to be euthanized because of the damage to the brain.
Bell said she has a pet rabbit and it was outside in a cage near the dog but was not hurt.
Police say there are no suspects in the shooting.
