Merrill man pleads not guilty to killing wife

MERRILL (WOW) - A Merrill man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges accusing him of killing his wife and hiding her body in some woods.

Lincoln County Circuit Judge Jay Tlusty also refused to lower Mark Bucki's $2 million bail.

, 49, was charged in May with first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and strangulation and suffocation in his wife, Anita's, death.

According to the criminal complaint, Mark Bucki told investigators that he and his wife were separated and she was living in Wausau. He said she came to their Merrill home about 9 p.m. on April 25 and a discussion about divorce lasted 2-3 hours. He reported her missing the next day.

More than two weeks later, a rural Taylor County couple on a walk spotted some human remains about 10 miles east of Medford and they were identified as Anita Bucki.

Prosecutors say the 48-year-old woman was stabbed seven times and she was strangled.

During Friday's hearing, Bucki's attorneys asked Tlusty to lower Bucki's bail to home confinement with up to 24-hour video surveillance that Bucki would pay for. The attorneys argued Bucki has some health issues, including heart and prostate problems.
