Unique way to fight hunger in Marathon County

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The United Way of Marathon County is fighting hunger in a unique way. Community Fest is set to take place at Marathon Park this weekend.

Organizers say the fest features several events including the "United We Can" food sculpture competition.

There are several sculptures entered in this year's contest. United Way organizers say 27 businesses and organizations built sculptures for the competition.

Organizers say they have collected about 30,000 pounds of non-perishable foods. They say all the food will be donated to food pantries across Marathon County.
Community Fest includes music, food and a 5K race. Organizers say it's a great way to fight hunger and have some fun.

"Bringing all the organizations together bringing families and individuals down here to be part of this it really does mirror what our vision is and what our role is in this community," said

The first sculptures were judged on Friday. Our own Newsline 9's Nate Barrett was a judge.
