Merrill Fire Department receives a major grant

The Merrill Fire Department is getting some help to replace old equipment.

Firefighters says the Bierman Family Foundation in Merrill agreed to pay for tens of thousands of dollars for new equipment.

They say the money will buy two new fire trucks, a command vehicle, and help repair another vehicle.

Firefighters say the total amount of the grant is not being disclosed.

The Bierman family started Lincoln Wood Products in Merrill.

"This equipment will make it safer for firefighters to fight fires in the city of Merrill," said Mike Drury, the captain of the fire department.

Some of the new equipment will be based in a new fire house that is being built.
