Sheriff's Department: Pit bulls attack deputy in drunken driver stop

PITTSVILLE (WAOW) – A deputy sheriff was attacked by two pit bulls during an arrest of a suspected drunken driver and shot them both during the attack, the Wood County Sheriff's Department said Friday.

The deputy suffered “multiple dog bites” and was treated at a hospital, the agency said. One of the dogs was euthanized and the other is recovering.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday at a home in Pittsville after the deputy stopped Cora Fuller outside her home for suspected drunken driving, the sheriff's department said in a statement.

Fuller, 48, refused to perform field sobriety tests and attempted to go into the home, Lt. Shawn Becker said. When the deputy attempted to arrest her, her pit bulls got loose and attacked the deputy, Becker said.

Fuller was arrested on several charges, including fourth offense drunken driving, Becker said. She remained in the Wood County Jail late Friday morning.

No other details were immediately released.
