Medford students "swim" for injured Taylor Co. deputy

A special event in Medford Thursday had students "Swimming for a Hero."

The event honored a Taylor County deputy shot in the line of duty. Chad Kowalczyk was shot last month in the Town of Westboro, and is still recovering. Thursday night organizers held an event at Medford High School to raise money for his rehabilitation.

Kowalczyk says he's grateful for all of the support from the community. He says he knows exactly what he wants to do once he's all better.

"I would say going bow hunting," said Kowalczyk, "Being outdoors, being in the woods. It's definitely a passion of mine. And getting out and about, being active."

The event is an extension of Medford's Homecoming week. During their Homecoming week, students have raised more than $2,000.
