WITTENBERG (WAOW) -
Driving through Wittenberg, it isn't hard to miss the different murals on most of the buildings. They each tell a different story. But people in the town realized they were missing something important.
"Last August at one of our meetings she said you know what kind of a mural we haven't had yet we should do a Green Bay Packer mural," said Elaine Diffor, who helps coordinate the murals.
The group reached out to two artists to create the new Packers work of art.
"It is not only about the present, but the past," said Carole Bersin, one of the artists.
The mural on Hanke's Sentry Foods displays old players, Lambeau Field, and even Vince Lombardi. The artists say they wanted to make sure they got every detail right.
"Things were taken to the Packers and we were told what could be on and what couldn't be on," Bersin said.
The faces of the fans are actually those who donated to the mural.
"The funds to pay for the mural were raised by people buying their face on the wall," said Bersin.
Some who donated wanted their loved ones painted on instead. The parts that are still blue will have even more faces painted on.
The mural isn't finished yet, but the artists are already proud and say it's worth the time.
The mural cost about $20,000. It will be dedicated on Sunday.
