EAGLE RIVER (WAOW) -
For a Northwoods community, fall means more than a cool breeze and changing colors. In Eagle River, it also means that it's cranberry season.
The 34th annual Cranberry Fest kicked off this weekend and people come back every year to enjoy it.
"It's a tradition we have. Me and my mom and aunt have been coming for a couple years now," said Brittany Schaefer of Collins.
The festival features more than 300 arts and crafts vendors coming back to sell their products too.
"We found this show about five years six years ago and we've been coming back ever since," said Jon Kranitz, Chickory Wood Products President. They make hardwood toys and sell them at different craft fairs, but he says Cranberry Fest is one of his favorites.
"It's a good show, we like this show," Kranitz added.
The event also features different food vendors and of course anything with cranberries. Eagle River Chamber of Commerce leaders say the event helps boost the city's economy.
"It gets the whole community involved and the economic growth of this event is very good for the area," said Kim Emerson, Eagle River Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator.
Charities like Make-a-Wish use the event to help raise money. Organizers say it's a great way to bring families together and bring visitors to this Northwoods community.
"That one dollar turns into seven times it's turned over and so the economic part of this is a great event for the whole community," said Emerson.
Cranberry fest continues Sunday with even more events around town. The Chamber of Commerce is expecting 40,000 people to attend all together.
