WAUSAU (WAOW) - A 31-year-old Wausau man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for assaulting a woman and holding her against her will in a case where the woman passed a note to a bank teller asking for help.
Julian Alvarez reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in which one count of second-degree sexual assault was dismissed and he pleaded no contest to three felonies as a repeat offender - false imprisonment, strangulation and suffocation and substantial battery, according to online court records.
A Marathon County circuit judge ordered Alvarez to serve five years on extended supervisor once he is released from prison.
The judge gave Alvarez credit for 308 days already served in jail, court records said.
The charges were filed in November 2012 after the woman passed a note to a bank teller asking for help. The woman told investigators she had a relationship with Alvarez and he had abused her and threatened her with a gun.
