Northern Wisconsin volunteers needed for cancer research

Posted:

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers for a landmark study on cancer prevention.

The organization is looking for 300,000 people to participate. Of those, 700 are needed in Northern Wisconsin.

Amy Zondlo of the American Cancer Society Chapter in Wausau says the study will look at how lifestyle and genetic factors play a role in causing or preventing cancer.

"This is so important for future generations to find out what causes the disease and what to prevent it and we can all have a hand in that," said Zondlo.

Unlike previous studies, participants will need to give a blood sample. They should be cancer free and age 30-65.

Additionally, they will be asked to fill out brief online surveys for the next 20 to 30 years.
