PORT EDWARDS (WAOW) -
Wood County Sheriff's Department officials say a Nekoosa man died in an early morning crash Saturday.
Officials say Nicholas Cain, 23, was driving southbound at 1:13 a.m. on County Highway AA near Lynn Road in Port Edwards when the vehicle entered the west ditch. They say the car then crossed the center line into the east ditch, causing the passenger's side to hit a tree. Authorities say Cain was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wood County Sheriff's Department says that high speeds are believed to be the cause of the one vehicle crash. Authorities say they don't know if Cain was wearing a seatbelt.
The Wood County Sheriff's Department, Nekoosa Police, Nekoosa Ambulance and Fire Department responded. The crash is still under investigation.
