WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) -
October is manufacturing month in Wisconsin, and students in Wisconsin Rapids got to learn about the industry up close.
Around 60 students had the chance to take part in the Heavy Metal Bus Tour, put on by the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce.
Students on the tour visited companies like Domtar Paper and the Mariani Packing Company.
Organizers say this tour gives students an opportunity to get learn about careers in the manufacturing industry.
Students also toured Mid-State Technical College to learn about the manufacturing related program that the school offers.
"It allows students to get an up close first hand look both in the field as well as well as at mid state technical college to see what those career opportunities in manufacturing are really all about," said Sue Budjac, President of Mid-State Technical College.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch spoke to the students about how important manufacturing is to the economy.
