Police: No arrests in theft of Wausau bridge parts

Wausau police say no arrests have been made in the theft of bolts from a downtown bridge.

A Wausau police patrol captain says 137 bolts and nearly 100 nuts were stolen near Scott Street and Washington Street. Police discovered the thefts Friday morning.

The captain says the nuts and bolts may have been stolen because they're valuable to scrappers.

"The nuts are stainless steel, the bolts are stainless steel so they can turn them in for scrap and get money for them," said Wausau Patrol Captain Ben Bliven.

The Department of Public Works reports it could cost as much as $1,5000 to replace the bolts. In the meantime, police say the railings are safe.
