$13.4 million for UWSP dorm projects approved

MADISON (WAOW) – Renovations to dormitories at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point were included among $157 million in building projects approved Wednesday by the state Building Commission chaired by Gov. Scott Walker.

Dorm renovations totaling $31.2 million were authorized at UWSP and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the governor said in a statement.

UWSP spokeswoman Nick Schultz said two dormitories – Watson Hall built in 1968 and Thomas Hall built in 1969 – will be renovated and made more energy efficient with $13.4 million over the next two summers.

Walker said other projects funded Wednesday included $64.3 million for UW-River Falls to construct the Falcon Center for Health, Education and Wellness and to renovate Ramer Field and $56 million for UW-Stout and UW-Oshkosh to renovate academic buildings.

The projects approved today will provide an economic benefit to the entire state,” the governor said.
