WIAA football playoff pairings revealed

Posted:

After nine weeks of action on the high school gridiron, coaches across Wisconsin gathered to select the seedings and pairings for the 2013 postseason. Thirty-two teams in each of the seven divisions were selected late Friday night and the match-ups for Level 1 were revealed Saturday afternoon.

Here are some of the noteworthy selections made by the coaches:

- SPASH sneaks into the playoffs despite finishing with a sub-.500 conference record. The Panthers beat Oshkosh West, 35-0, which was apparently enough to convince the coaches to let them in.

- Wausau West will host a playoff game for the first time in school history. The Warriors defeated Appleton East, 23-0, to improve their seeding to 4th.

- Nekoosa's perfect 5-0 conference record earned the Papermakers a top seed in Division 4.

- Marawood co-champions Stratford and Marathon will meet in Level 1. The Red Raiders will host a rematch of an earlier contest that they won 16-0.

- Edgar receives a top seed in Division 6.

- Owen-Withee drops to a three-seed after suffering its first loss of the year on Friday night to Athens. The Blackhawks will host Newman Catholic in Level 1.
