MINOCQUA (WAOW) – Icy conditions early Tuesday caused a semi-truck crash north of Minocqua that closed U.S. Highway 51 and knocked power lines down across the road, the Vilas County Sheriff's Department said.
The driver was not injured in the crash about 7:30 a.m. about about 15 miles north of Minocqua at a bridge at Spider Lake, Sheriff Joe Fath said.
“The bridge was iced over,” the sheriff said. “He lost control.”
The truck plowed into a ditch, he said.
The crash was one of three investigated Tuesday morning in Vilas County, including an injury accident about three miles north of where the semi crashed, due to snow and icy roads, Fath said. No other details were immediately available.
At least one inch of snow had fallen in northern Vilas County and it was still snowing at 9 a.m., he said.
U.S. 51 at the site of the semi crash was closed until about 2 p.m. for crews to get the truck out of the ditch, the sheriff said.
