Trial date set for Merrill man accused of killing wife

A trial date has been set for a Merrill man accused of killing his wife and hiding her body in some woods. Mark Bucki, 49, is facing first-degree intentional homicide charges in the death of his wife, Anita.

The trail has been set to start April 7. Bucki is in jail on a $2 million bond.

According to the criminal complaint, Mark Bucki told investigators that he and his wife were separated and she was living in Wausau. He said she came to their Merrill home about 9 p.m. on April 25 and a discussion about divorce lasted 2-3 hours. He reported her missing the next day.

More than two weeks later, a rural Taylor County couple on a walk spotted some human remains about 10 miles east of Medford and they were identified as Anita Bucki.

Prosecutors say the 48-year-old woman was stabbed seven times and she was strangled.

A message left for Bucki's attorney was not immediately returned.
