WAUSAU (WAOW) -
A new business could soon find a home in Wausau. Thursday night, Wausau's Economic Development Committee unanimously approved a grant to help make that happen.
The $160,000 grant would come directly out of tax incremental finance area number five. The city can take a certain percentage of tax generated in that zone to develop that geographical area.
With the grant, Southern Stretch Forms is looking to buy the vacant building at 7555 Stewart Avenue.
The company bends building materials like steel and aluminum. If it comes to town, it plans on adding three to four jobs immediately and is hoping to add more down the road.
"This company will not only employ new people at decent paying jobs, but it will also allow subsidiaries, people that use their services to to also grow their employment force," said Romey Wagner, Wausau City Council alderman.
Wagner says there was really no opposition to granting the money, but it still has to go through the Finance Committee and get final approval from the council.
