Kira Steger Trevino laid to rest

Posted:

A former DC Everest graduate killed by her husband has been laid to rest. On Saturday, her family said goodbye for the very last time.

More than 100 people gathered to pay their respects to Kira Steger Trevino. A funeral was held at St. Mark's Parish in Rothschild Saturday.

A Minnesota jury convicted Kira's husband, Jeffrey Trevino, in her death. H
e was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder.

30-year-old Kira Steger Trevino was last seen alive in February. H
er body was recovered from the Mississippi River in May.

Kira's family says it will be hard to move forward, b
ut they say this is a big step in the healing process.

"Beautiful, intelligent, and just my life,"
Those are the words Marcie Steger says best describe her daughter Kira. A person she says held everyone together and lit up the room everywhere she went.

"She touched so many lives," said Marcie.

But now, those are only memories, as she says goodbye to her daughter for the very last time.

"If I could sleep by where she's going to be put to rest I'd probably do that," said Marcie.

Candles, flowers and pictures of Kira filled St. Mark's Parish. A crowd of people came from near and far to pay their respects to a life they say was lost too soon.

At times, somber silence filled the room, other moments filled with emotion.

Kira's siblings say they always looked up to her.

"It was always my goal in life to be much like Kira as possible which is very hard to do because she is the best person I've ever met," said Felicia Krejci, Kira's sister.

"I know she was very supportive with what ever I wanted to do with my life so I guess I will just follow my dream and try to make her proud," said Kira's brother, Austin Krejci.

Marcie says laying Kira to rest is the hardest thing she's ever had to do, but living without her is even harder.

"I don't know what I'm going to do without her," said Marcie.

Marcie says moving forward won't be easy, but it gives her comfort knowing Kira is resting in peace.

Jeffery Trevino has yet to be sentenced.
