WEYAUWEGA (WAOW) – The Waupaca County Sheriff's Department says five people were hurt when their truck hauling construction machinery slammed into the rear of a tractor hauling liquid manure.
The accident happened about 3 p.m. on U.S. Highway 10 about 1.5 miles east of Weyauwega, Sheriff Brad Hardel said.
Two people with serious injuries were flown by helicopter to a hospital in Neenah, Hardel said. The other three were taken to area hospitals with less serious injuries, he said.
Hardel said the crash happened as the manure hauler tried to make a left turn into a farm and the flatbed truck hauling the construction machinery was unable to stop and rear-ended it.
The five people hurt were in the flatbed truck, which had Minnesota license plates and also struck a semi-truck traveling by in the right lane, Hardel said.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 10 were closed because of the crash, but reopened around 7:00 p.m., according to State Patrol. The manure tank was full and ruptured in the crash, Hardel said.
