Stevens Point students give back to community

Some Stevens Point students are giving back to the community.

Third graders at McDill Elementary School worked with student council members to make about 24 fleece baby blankets.

Teachers said the blankets will be donated to the St. Michael's Hospital newborn unit.

School leaders said this is just the first of many projects.

"It's just really important to instill that giving back to others is so very important and looking out into the future when you're getting older, it's not just all about you and your needs, you have to others needs forward first," said Cristy Lewallen, Student Council Advisor.

Third graders also donated a children's book with the blankets.

School leaders said more than 50 students took part.
