A 55-year-old Wausau bicyclist suffered several broken bones and a mild concussion in a crash with a car, his wife said.
John Allstaedt was listed in fair condition at Wausau Aspirus Hospital on Thursday, one day after the crash on Wausau's west side, a hospital spokesman said.
Allstaedt's wife, Tina, said her husband suffered 16 broken ribs, a broken shoulder and a broken arm.
"He didn't have a tire run over him. He just had the car run over him," Tina Allstaedt said.
Wausau Police Lt. Mike Juedes says the bicyclist drove in front of a car driven by a 19-year-old woman Wednesday afternoon, locked his front brakes, flew over the handlebars, landed on his face in front the car and was at least partially run over by the car.
Allstaedt was not wearing a helmet and only occasionally rides a bike to his job in downtown Wausau, his wife said.
