Film Festival comes to Wausau

Movie buffs have a chance to see new, original films this weekend. The 8th Annual Central Wisconsin Film Festival is happening around the area. This is the first year Wausau has hosted the event. The Center for Visual Arts in downtown Wausau showed the films Friday evening.

The festival has a great variety of films including animation, Spanish narratives, and documentaries.

"Not everyone is going to like it but hopefully some people will find it a very fresh way of looking at film and telling stories," said Bill Schierl of the Arts Alliance of Portage County.

Students at Amherst High School created stop motion films that will be shown at all of the locations.

"In my mind, the core is to encourage and spark that young emerging artist locally to show their work," said Schierl.

Organizers say this is a unique experience for both filmmakers and the audience.

"With independent films, I think you get a lot more variety and the filmmakers themselves are free to really explore different subject matter and maybe things that you wouldn't normally see," said Krista Vendetti, the operations manager at the Center for Visual Arts.
