Wausau businesses already thinking of Christmas

While some are thinking about the snow, others are already thinking about the holidays.

A group of local businesses in Wausau are starting to get in the Christmas spirit. Wausau's Christmas on First open house began Saturday morning.

The event started 20 years ago with just two businesses. Now, eleven stores are participating all together. Organizers say the event brings people to their stores and provides a boost to the local economy.

"Every dollar that gets spent in a local shop gets turned around three to four to five times in the Wausau economy, so it's important for people to understand that if there's a product that meets their needs in town, buy it here rather than online," said Thom Passow, the event coordinator.

If shoppers head to all eleven stores and get stamps, they could win a prize. The cards will be entered to win a gift basket with more than $1,000 worth of items inside.

The event continues Sunday from 12-4.
