Wausau East 3, Chippewa Falls 0
The Lumberjacks advanced to their first state tournament since 1978 with a 3-0 sweep over Chippewa Falls. The Cardinals fought off three match points but couldn't delay the inevitable as Annie Tuman hit a cross-court kill to earn Wausau East the Division 1 sectional title.
"We've just taken it one game at a time. We haven't even said that our goal was to get to state," senior Annie Tuman said. "We just keep wanting to win the next one and now that we're here, it's just unbelievable. I'm so proud of our girls."
Wausau East will face Neenah in the state quarterfinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Resch Center.
Auburndale 3, Lourdes Academy 1
After Auburndale needed five sets in each of its last three matches, the Apaches only needed four to book their spot in the Division 3 state semifinals.
Auburndale went on a mini-run in the first to take the lead and eventually win the first set, 25-18. The Apaches took a two-set lead before Lourdes won game three 25-23 to force a fourth. Auburndale dominated game four, winning 25-12.
The Apaches will play Racine St. Catherine's in the state semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m.
