Utility customers are now the targets in a new scam that impacts Wisconsin Public Service.
WPS says someone contacted a customer to tell him he was behind on paying bills and needed to pay over the phone with a credit card. Also, scammers have posed as WPS workers, trying to get access to properties.
WPS says workers will never ask to meet with customers about paying a bill or ask them to by a pre-paid card over the phone.
WPS is urging people to report any phone calls that cannot be verified to police. Customers can also report scam attempts to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection at 608-224-4953 or 800-422-7128.
