Six years in prison for attack on pregnant woman

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - A 24-year-old Marshfield man already serving time in prison was sentenced Tuesday to another six years behind bars for dousing a pregnant woman in gasoline and threatening to set her on fire, a prosecutor said.

Tyler Ress was convicted of three felonies - second-degree recklessly endangering safety, strangulation and suffocation and false imprisonment - in a plea bargain in which four other charges were dismissed, according to online court records.

Investigators said Ress punched a 28-year-old woman who was pregnant with his child multiple times in the stomach in September 2012.

Wood County Circuit Judge Nicholas Brazeau Jr. ordered that Ress spend four years on extended supervision after he is released from prison and that he also obtain domestic abuse counseling, District Attorney Craig Lambert said.

Lambert said the woman who was attacked delivered the baby.

Ress currently is an inmate at a state prison in Waupun involving unrelated cases in Marathon and Clark counties, and the Wood County prison term will be served consecutive to those sentences, the prosecutor said.
