Sarah Palin coming to Wausau area

People are reacting to news that a former Vice Presidential candidate will be making a stop in the Wausau area.

Sarah Palin plans to stop in Rib Mountain next Thursday for a book signing, but this visit is getting mixed reviews.

Former Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin hasn't run for anything in 5 years, but her name still attracts attention and she'll soon be at the Rib Mountain Wal-Mart.

"I guess it's neat because she's kind of reaching out to a smaller community," said Emily Schlichte.

According to her Facebook page, Palin will be signing her new book, "Good Tidings and Great Joy."

Store managers said they're already working on crowd control and security.

"I'm glad that she's doing it and I'm glad that she's making it come back and hopefully stronger than ever," said Judith Jensen.

Not everyone, though, plans to show up.

"I think she's too far to the right and I really don't have any use for that type of politician," said Karen Gray.

Many people we talked to wondered why Sarah Palin's book tour is stopping in Wausau. We reached out to her a number of ways, including Twitter, looking for an answer.

None of my calls, tweets or e-mails was returned.

Recently, Palin did speak up about an issue in Wausau: the Christmas music controversy.

The school district proposed limiting religious music at holiday concerts but later reversed that decision.

Palin tweeted about the uproar last month, urging parents to take action.

"Tying that in with the book and everything that's been happening in the school districts lately, that definitely would make sense," said Schlichte.

Wausau's superintendent said she hasn't spoken with Palin.

We don't know if the music controversy has any connection to Palin's planned stop in our area.

"I just think it's really random that she chose Wausau of all places that she could go to, I think she could have chose maybe a bigger place," said Schlichte.

But it looks like Wausau it is. As of now, no other stops in Wisconsin are planned.

According to Sarah Palin's Facebook, more stops are planned after Thanksgiving, but no locations have been announced.

RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) -- Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is coming to Rib Mountain, according to Palin's Facebook page.

The post says Palin is promoting her new book, "Good Tidings and Great Joy."

Palin says she'll be at Walmart in Rib Mountain on Thursday, November 14, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Palin had been vocal about the recent controversy involving a proposed limit on Christmas music for Wausau students.

She sent this tweet about the topic: "Silent Night in Wausau on Monday? Bet not. Can't wait for parents to take this on."

No word on whether Palin has other stops planned while she's in the Wausau area.
