Antigo cracks down on property owners who fail to remove snow and ice

Posted:

The City of Antigo plans to crackdown on property owners who fail to remove snow and ice from sidewalks and crosswalks.

The city has sent out a one-time notice in the mail to let people know about the changes.

No longer will the city put door hangers on your property if you are in violation 48 hours after a storm.

Instead, city crews will clear the snow and ice or put down sand and salt and bill you for the work.

Sarah Repp is the Antigo Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Supervisor. She says it is a safety issue.

"If you fail to clean up after storm, the fine is $75 for the crew to remove snow and ice and put down salt and sand. Then there is a labor fee of at least a half-hour based on $50 an hour," said Repp.

That would make the minimum fee $100.

Repp says the hope is it will make the city safer.
