Wausau East, D.C. Everest, Tomahawk send swimmers to state


Wausau East and D.C. Everest will send swimmers to the Division 1 state swim meet, while Tomahawk will have an individual competitor as well as relay teams swimming for a Division 2 state title next weekend in Madison.

The Wausau East swim team won the Hudson sectional on Saturday with a team score of 329 points. The Lumberjacks 200 yard medley relay team of Allie Reif, Sarah Kane, Hannah Plummer, and Bethany Novak-Tveten qualified for the Division 1 state meet with a first place sectional time of 1:52.13. Novak-Tveten also qualfied for state in the 50 yard freestyle with a third place sectional time of 24.86, while Kane will be swimming at state in the 100 yard breaststroke after winning the sectional with a time of 1:07.03.

D.C. Everest's Ashley Kroll will compete at the state meet in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle. Kroll placed second at the Hudson sectional in both events.

In Division 2, Tomahawk placed second as a team at the Stevens Point sectional on Saturday. The Hatchets will send their 200 yard freestyle relay team of Morgan Weber, Michaela Galganski, Baylee Dallman, and Lauren Hilt to state after with a first place sectional time of 1:44.04. Tomahawk's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Morgan Weber, Mikhayla Kleich, Katherine Russell, and Lauren Hilt will also compete at state following a winning sectional time of 3:47.38.

Individually, Tomahawk freshman Lauren Hilt will swim for Division 2 state titles in the 50 yard freestyle (24.36) and 100 yard freestyle (53.39).
