American Idol superstar takes the stage in Stevens Point

American Idol superstar and music sensation Phillip Phillips took the stage Sunday night in Stevens Point.

The crowd roared with excitement at U.W. Stevens Point as Phillips kicked off the show with bright lights, his guitar and of course that familiar voice.

The original concert in May was rescheduled because Phillips was ill.

Before the show kicked off, we went backstage to ask him what he's feeling before he comes face-to-face with his fans.

"I feel very fortunate to be able to do this and I have a good time, the guys on stage, we have a good time, I like to meet all the new people in different places, and see all the different cities and wake up in a different place, it's fun, I enjoy it," said Phillip Phillips.

Organizers estimate more than 2,000 people came for the show.

Phillips said his next stop is Springfield, Ohio.
