Crandon man convicted in day care sex case

CRANDON (WAOW) - A 39-year-old Crandon man has been convicted of sexually assaulting or exposing himself to children who were being cared for at his mother's day care center in Crandon, according to Forest County online court records.

William J. Anderson pleaded guilty Tuesday to five felonies - one count of repeated sexual assault of a child and four counts of exposing his genitals or pubic areas to children - in a plea bargain in which another felony count of sexual assault of a child was dismissed, the online records said.

Anderson had been charged in mid-September in incidents that happened between January and Sept. 11 involving victims ranging in age from four to six, the criminal complaint said.

Circuit Judge James Habeck accepted Anderson's guilty pleas Tuesday and set sentencing for Jan. 28.

The investigation began Sept. 11 when a mother alerted police to possible sexual misbehavior involving Anderson after talking to her young children, the complaint said.

Anderson told investigators that his mother had operated the day care for about 10 years and that he occasionally watched "the kids" while his mother would run to the bank, the complaint said.
