Merrill man sent to prison in child sex case

MERRILL (WAOW) - A 35-year-old Merrill man has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexual misbehavior with some young girls.

Corey C. Adams was convicted of repeated sexual assault of the same child and child enticement in a plea deal in which three other felonies were dismissed, according to Lincoln County online court records.

Circuit Judge Ann Knox-Bauer sentenced Adams to five years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision for each conviction on Monday and ordered that the sentences be served at the same time, court records said. The judge ordered the sentences to be served after he completes prison time for an unrelated drug conviction.

A criminal complaint filed in March alleged that the victims of the sexual misbehavior ranged in age from 10 to 16 and involved incidents that police said occurred as far back as 2007.

Police said the investigation of Adams started when investigators learned of some "inappropriate" text messages sent by him.
