UWSP gets millions of dollars in grants

Millions of dollars in grant money will help UW-Stevens Point.

The school received roughly $5 million to help fund three projects. $4 million will help expand work with processing cellulose and upgrading a paper machine. Educators say the rest of the money will go to the aqua culture department.

It's all part of a $22 million grant made available through the UW Systems Incentive Grant program.

"We have our students working on real world pieces of research and innovation and testing services," explained Paul Fowler. "The real world experience of working with some of the major industry employers in the region and an opportunity for them to develop their careers with those businesses."

56 Proposals were submitted from across the state, 12 were accepted. The funds will be distributed throughout the next two years.
