UPDATE: Deputy who lost AR15 rifle suspended


WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) – A Wood County sheriff's deputy who lost an AR15 rifle for several hours was suspended for a day as discipline for the incident, Chief Deputy Randy Dorshorst said Friday.

Deputy Matthew Susa, a nine-year veteran with the department, will return to work Monday, Dorshorst said.

Susa loaded his squad car after it had been repaired in Vesper on Thursday, he left the rifle on the trunk, he drove off and the weapon, which was in a black case, fell off, Dorshorst said.

A man on a trip to see his girlfriend found the gun along state Highway 186 and returned it to the sheriff's department Thursday night, the chief deputy said.

A missing AR15 rifle has been returned, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

Officials say a deputy lost the AR15 rifle after it fell off a car trunk. They say a person who found the rifle earlier in the day returned it.

The deputy inadvertently left the weapon on the trunk and drove off on state Highway 186 in the Vesper area about 3 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Shawn Becker said.
