With the fall sports state championships now in the books, we begin the winter high school season. But before we get into finding the best plays from basketball, hockey, wrestling, and gymnastics, we want to salute the top five performances of the fall state championship season.
Tomahawk's Lauren Hilt wasn't satisfied just getting to state as a freshman, she wanted to put her name on the map. Hilt placed 4th in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle at the Division 2 state meet.
The Auburndale volleyball team entered the postseason as a 5-seed, but that didn't phase the it's determination. The Apaches fought through four 5-set matches in the playoffs en route to a silver ball at the Division 3 state championships.
In her third appearance at state in the last four years, Grace Larrain became the first girl or boy from Newman Catholic to win a state title.
The SPASH boys cross country team dominated this fall and that dominance was on display at state. Five Panthers finished in the top 30, good for 84 points and a Division 1 state title.
The most impressive performance this season was from the Newman Catholic volleyball team.
The Cardinals didn't drop a set the entire postseason, which earned them a Division 4 gold ball and our top state performance of the 2013 fall sports season.
