"My dad pushed me hard to play basketball." Marcus Gabriel remembers when he was five, he would spend two to three hours a week at the YMCA shooting hoops. Gabriel reflects on the advice his father's advice, "Stay humble, not cocky, keep playing your game."
"his dad is a huge part of his life, which is great to see that family atmosphere get brought into the gym and make that home to school connection."
Playing football for the Cardinals wouldn't have been Marcus' father's first choice, "He was a little disappointed. He's always worried about me getting injured. He was more of a soccer player. He was mad when I chose football in high school."
Marcus led Newman football on the ground with over 600 yards, and as he plays his final season on court in Wausau, his dad has one last tip.
"Don't be afraid, I'm capable of doing good things this year, I just need to do it."
