Wis. veterans see glitches in getting new licenses

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- -

Some Wisconsin veterans trying to get their hands on special new driver's licenses have been confused by a state website but unable to get through to a toll-free hotline for assistance.
The state veterans affairs and transportation departments announced the new licenses earlier this month. Valid starting Monday, they give military veterans access to discounts and other perks.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports Friday that a number of county veterans services officers see problems with the rollout of the licenses. A deputy commissioner of veterans affairs tells the newspaper that an unclear certification process has been fixed but acknowledged the state's call center was overwhelmed with calls from veterans and at times unreachable.
A Department of Transportation spokeswoman says the agency is ready to start issuing the licenses Monday.
