McCarthy: Rodgers' return still in question

GREEN BAY (WAOW) – Indicating his team likely needed to win its last four games for any chance of making the playoffs, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said it was too early Friday to know whether Aaron Rodgers will return as quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons.

I just know when we came off the field Wednesday, he wasn't ready to play,” McCarthy said a day after Detroit whipped the Packers 40-10, keeping the team winless in five games since Rodgers was hurt.

We will see how the testing goes. It needs to be the right thing. I know he wants to play. He is trying to gear up each and every week to play. We will see what happens,” McCarthy said.

The Packers next game is Dec. 8 against the Falcons (2-9) at Lambeau Field. Rodgers has been out since Nov. 4, when he fractured his left collarbone in the first series of a 27-20 loss to Chicago.

The Packers, 5-2 at the time, are now 5-6-1.

The Packers were dominated in the loss to Detroit, failing to generate much offense with Matt Flynn at quarterback, the third backup to start since Rodgers' injury.

There is not a man who has coached or played in this league who hasn't got his (expletive) beat,” McCarthy said Friday. “That is what happened to us. We got drilled by a very good football team. They played very well.”
