Winter Wonderland opens in Marshfield

The lights are up, Christmas music is on, and families are out enjoying Winter Wonderland in Marshfield.

Woodland Park and Zoo is decked out in Christmas lights. The holiday display opened to the public Friday night.

This is the eighth year for the holiday display.

Organizers say it takes about 800 volunteers to string the 1.5 million lights on display. They say all of the lights are LED, so it only costs about ten dollars a day to light up the display.

Visitors are welcome to walk or drive through the lit up land.

Organizers say there is something new to see each year.

Many of the lights dance with the music. Students at Marshfield Senior High choreographed some of the displays with holiday music.

"I think it is an amazing thing that we do in our community and it obviously helps a lot of people. It gives me the chills every year to come down here and see the opening night and how many people come together in this community to make something like this happen," said Danielle Nystrom of Marshfield.

Nystrom says she helps her father set up the display every year.

Admission is free, but the Rotary clubs that sponsor the event ask visitors to donate a non-perishable food item. Those goods will stock local food pantries

Winter Wonderland is open until New Years Eve.
