TAYLOR COUNTY (WAOW) - Taylor County Sheriff's Department officials say one hunter is dead and another injured after being hit by a car Friday afternoon.

They say it happened near County Line Road and Lou Avenue near the town of Aurora.

Investigators say several hunters were standing on or near County Line Road, when a fast-moving car was headed toward them. They say two of the hunters were not able to get out of the way in time.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, one of the two pedestrians hit was 52-year-old Juan A. Salinas of Roscoe, Illinois.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say 53-year-old Fernando Salinas, also from Roscoe, Illinois is listed in serious but stable condition suffering leg injuries at Aspirus Wausau hospital.

Authorities say the driver of the car, 42-year-old James L. Winchel of Sheldon, was taken to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire by helicopter. According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Winchel is listed in stable condition.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department reports speed and alcohol are believed to be potential factors in the crash. Officials say the investigation is on-going.
