Slide-offs mostly slowing across north central Wisconsin

Posted: Updated:

Sheriff's officers across our area dealt with many slide-offs during Tuesday's snow storm, but the number of incidents had slowed drastically as of late in the evening.

In Marathon County, dispatchers reported more than 50 crashes including one that left one person dead and another hurt. But as of Tuesday evening, a sheriff's dispatcher told Newsline 9 things had calmed down.

Dispatchers in Clark, Forest, Oneida, Price, Portage, Taylor, and Wood counties also reported a slower evening after a busy afternoon dealing with weather-related incidents.

However, a Lincoln County dispatcher told Newsline 9 freezing rain was bringing new challenges. The dispatcher said four cars were in the ditch as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Crews had also dealt with one minor crash, the dispatcher said.
