Athlete of the Week: CW Storm's Lisa Fowle

72 saves. That's how many Lisa Fowle has made in the first six games of the season for the Central Wisconsin Storm.

Our Athlete of the Week has done some heavy lifting, literally, to help her team.

"Four days a week. One hour of lifting. One hour agility training," Fowle said. "I was a little bit surprised. You don't necessarily know how much you have in you."

Fowle is describing her summer training after a disappointing end to last season, when the Storm lost by one goal in the state semifinals.

"All summer you work to prepare for the next season. It always gave me something to work for because I knew that next year, I want to be not only at the state tournament but at that championship game," Fowle said.

The Wausau West senior, who once said she never wanted to be a goalie, made 37 saves in the loss to Onalaska.

"Every year, you go through the struggles," Fowle said. You go through the ups and downs but you learn how to put in the hard work and how to press on through the tough times."

Besides hitting the ice once a week during the summer, Fowle got involved in a lifting program for the first time.

"This was the first year they had a separate girls section so that encouraged myself and a few other members of our team to go out and get involved in that," Fowle said. "We're definitely reaping the benefits."

The Storm is undefeated with five wins and a tie, definitely a benefit of hard work in the off-season. Lisa Fowle, your Newsline 9 Athlete of the Week.
