MEDFORD (WAOW) - A 28-year-old Westboro man accused of shooting a Taylor County Sheriff's Department deputy was ordered to stand trial Thursday.

Circuit Judge Ann Knox-Bauer ruled prosecutors presented enough evidence during a preliminary hearing to justify the charges filed against  Alexander Schneider.

Schneider is charged with six felonies, including attempted first-degree homicide, in the Sept. 8 shooting of Deputy Chad Kowalczyk, who was hit once in the abdomen.

The shooting occurred after Kowalczyk had gone to Schneider's home to investigate a woman's complaint that Schneider had sent her at least 16 text messages that day, in violation of a restraining order, according to the criminal complaint.

Schneider is to return to court Dec. 20 to enter pleas to the charges, online court records said.
