Wausau holiday parade canceled

Wausau's annual holiday parade scheduled for Friday evening has been canceled.
According to Wausau Events, Inc. director Kari Rasmussen, organizers decided to cancel the event due to extremely cold temperatures expected.
According to Rasmussen, "We believe it is in the best interest of parade participants and spectators to cancel the parade. At this time, we do not have plans to reschedule the parade portion of Friday's Holiday Parade activities."
In an interview with Newsline 9, Rasmussen apologizes for the decision to cancel the parade but says this is the safest decision.
"I know a lot of people have put a lot of hard work into their floats, but again we just thought it would be in the best interest, for the safety. I know people will be disappointed but I certainly do hope people understand why we made the decision that we did," Rasmussen said.

Organizers say the warming party at the Great Hall next to the Grand Theater will go on as scheduled. That begins at 6:00 p.m. The Wausau Symphony Band is scheduled to perform. Children can also meet Santa Claus, organizers say, and free refreshments will be offered.
The holiday tree lighting is still scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Wausau's 400 block.
More information is coming up on Newsline 9 at 5:00 and 6:00.
