Special Olympics bowling tournament

Hundreds of Special Olympics athletes from across Wisconsin put their bowling skills to the test.

The Northern State Fall Sports tournament was held at Dale's Weston Lanes Saturday. Medals were awarded to the best bowlers. Free physicals were also provided by Wausau doctors. Organizers say the event gives athletes the chance to shine.

"They may have not of had the chance to play sports in high school or in the community or anywhere else we give them the opportunity to really show what they can do," said Regional Director of Sports Jerry Lyon.

Seven of these athletes will also be traveling to New Jersey to compete in the Special Olympics U.S.A. games in June.
