Kwik Trip property may be donated

The Kwik Trip property on Grand Avenue may be donated to the city of Wausau.
Kwik Trip's owners are in the process of removing the underground gas tanks. The Department of Natural Resources will assess the soil to make sure the tanks didn't leak and that there isn't an environmental concern.
Mayor Jim Tipple says if the city acquires the property, he hopes the site will be reused in a way that compliments the neighborhood.
"There's been different ideas," said Tipple. "One would be a small office building. They'd want to keep neighborhood flavor there, even though it's a busy street. "
The site is assessed at $376,000.
The Finance Committee will vote on whether to recommend the donation to the council on Tuesday night.
