Stolen 1960 car now subject of arson probe

WESTON (WAOW) – A vintage 1960 Ford Thunderbird stolen from a home in Weston last fall is now the subject of an arson investigation, Capt. Clay Schulz of the Everest Metro Police Department said Tuesday.

The car was found several weeks ago burning on a rural road east of Wausau, he said. The car was destroyed, providing little evidence to help with the burglary probe.

The car, along with two guns, tools and electronic equipment, were taken in a burglary from a Weston home while it was unoccupied between Sept. 17 and Sept. 25, investigators said.

The car, with an unknown value, was parked in the garage and the thieves located its keys in the home, police said.

Schulz said Tuesday that his detectives are exploring whether three men arrested in Wausau last week in a string of burglaries there could be connected to the Weston burglary.

The method of the burglaries seemed consistent with ours,” he said.

Among items recovered in the Wausau probe of the three men were several guns, police said.
