Investigation into what's causing skin irritation, headaches at school
ADAMS COUNTY (WAOW) -- Several students at Adams-Friendship Elementary School are dealing with skin irritation, headaches, and nausea, according to a letter posted on the district's website.
District officials say students started having symptoms late last week.
According to school leaders, those students were from two classrooms in the 4th and 5th grade wing.
"It was decided to go beyond the normal cleaning routine and substantially increase the amount of cleaning to include scrubbing the floor, complete cleaning of desks and chairs, wiping down the walls, and dusting," said the letter.
The school's maintenance staff also checked ventilation to the area.
After eight students displayed skin irritation Monday, school officials say the rooms were cleaned again, but 12 students and a few staff members showed the same symptoms Tuesday.
The Adams County Health Department is now involved along with an Environmental Specialist.
The district says it will continue testing and problem solving to find out what is causing these problems.
